REX HILL's story embodies the agricultural transformation of Oregon's Willamette Valley, beginning as a 1920s fruit and nut drying facility that found new life in 1982 when Paul Hart and Jan Jacobsen reimagined it as a vineyard and winery. From its humble beginnings as a converted barn, the estate evolved into a respected Pinot Noir producer before passing to A to Z Wineworks' founding families in 2007. Today, the property maintains its historic character - complete with original drying tunnels - while embracing modern winemaking technology through state-of-the-art equipment and sustainable practices, representing a successful blend of Oregon's agricultural heritage with contemporary viticulture.
This Willamette Valley Pinot Noir offers a complex aromatic profile of rich dark berries, pomegranate, and rhubarb, complemented by caramel, mulling spices, and tobacco, with subtle mineral notes of flint, slate, and graphite. The expansive palate layers black cherry, blackberry, boysenberry, and plum, accented by toasty oak, cola, vanilla, and earthy undertones. This sophisticated wine balances moderate tannins with bright acidity and integrated oak, concluding in a lingering finish that promises additional complexity over 15-20 years of aging.
