Re Manfredi, founded in 1998 and managed by the Montrone Family, is a prestigious winery located in Venosa, northern Basilicata, Italy. The 271-acre estate is situated on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano that contributes to the region's unique terroir. The volcanic soil, combined with ideal climate conditions, creates an exceptional environment for winemaking, particularly for the indigenous Aglianico grape. Re Manfredi's vineyards, including a 50-acre single vineyard on the steep volcano slopes, produce high-quality wines that have earned multiple Tre Bicchieri awards, solidifying the estate's reputation as a benchmark Aglianico producer in Italy.
Re Manfredi's Bianca degli Svevi is a distinctive white wine produced from grapes grown in the winery's volcanic soils near Venosa. This wine is characterized by its intense and complex aroma, strong personality, and an intriguing interplay between enveloping minerality and pleasant softness. The grapes are sourced from the Pian di Camera locality, known for its loamy-clayey soils rich in colloidal formations, which contribute to the wine's unique profile. The vinification process involves cold maceration for a portion of the grapes, followed by temperature-controlled fermentation. Post-fermentation, the wines are aged on fine lees for about two months. A small portion of the wine undergoes maceration and fermentation on the skins in alternative containers, including terracotta amphorae and wooden barrels, adding further complexity to the final product.
