The Prieler estate, located in Schützen on the western side of Lake Neusiedl in Austria, is a historic farm now specialized in grape growing, run by two generations of the Prieler family. With 20 hectares of vineyards situated between the Leithagebirge mountains and Lake Neusiedl, the estate benefits from a unique terroir, abundant sunshine, and varying soil types, allowing them to produce outstanding Blaufränkisch and Burgundian varieties. The Prielers' meticulous work in the vineyards and cellar, along with Silvia Prieler's international experience, has earned them numerous awards and recognition for their high-quality wines that showcase the specific properties of each grape variety and terroir.
The Prieler estate's Blaufränkisch is sourced from nine different parcels in Schützen, featuring a diverse terroir composed primarily of limestone, mica schist, and portions of slate. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks before being aged in used Stockinger barrels. On the nose, it exhibits a charming Vino Nobile-like aroma, with a round, barky, and rugged character that manages to avoid being overly rustic. The wine is focused yet analog in its expression, displaying a balanced warmth alongside a well-defined structure and outline. A distinct, articulate pepperiness further enhances the wine's complexity and depth.
