Olivier Leflaive, a renowned family-run winery in Burgundy, France, has been dedicated to producing exceptional wines while respecting the land and Burgundian traditions since its establishment in 1984. One of their signature wines, Les Sétilles, is named after the official/registered location of Olivier Leflaive's cellar in Puligny-Montrachet. This cuvée is a testament to the winery's expertise in crafting accessible yet seductive Chardonnays.
The Bourgogne Les Sétilles 2022 is a harmonious blend of around sixty carefully selected plots located in the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, with additional grapes sourced from three plots in the Côte Chalonnaise and ten in the Hautes Côte de Beaune. The 2022 vintage brought serenity back to the vineyard, with a healthy harvest and correct volumes, despite early frost episodes that recalled the challenging conditions of 2021. The year was marked by above-average temperatures and rainfall deficits, as well as a record-breaking amount of sunshine equivalent to an additional month of July. The soil in these plots is rich in colluvium and small pebbles, providing an ideal foundation for the 45-year-old Chardonnay vines. The grapes are harvested 90% manually and 10% mechanically, ensuring a careful selection of the best fruit. The vinification process involves 50% crushed grapes and 50% whole grapes, followed by a 24-hour static settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak barrels, and the wine is aged for 14 months (including 5 months in stainless steel tanks), with 90% in oak barrels (10% new) and 10% in stainless steel vats. The resulting Les Sétilles 2022 is a seductive and accessible wine, revealing a nose with pleasant honeyed notes and white-fleshed fruits. Its freshness is accompanied by a delicate feel on the palate, and the finish is expressive with chalky nuances. This versatile wine is ideal for pairing with a fillet of swordfish marinated in lime, fried calamari, or a hot or cold Brie.
