Olivier Leflaive is a family-run winery in Burgundy, France, established in 1984. They are dedicated to crafting high-quality wines while respecting the land and Burgundian traditions. Their philosophy emphasizes teamwork and a commitment to sharing their passion for wine with others. This is evident in their creation of a hospitality experience that allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the world of Burgundy wine.
The Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2020 is a testament to the extraordinary terroir of this historic vineyard, which has been cultivated since the 7th century. Situated in the town of Aloxe Corton and protected by the "Bois de Corton," this rectangular plot boasts a south/southeast exposure and rests on a limestone Bathonian soil rich in ferrous elements and marls. These unique soil characteristics impart a structured, wild, and concentrated character to the wine. The 2020 vintage, marked by historic precocity and high temperatures, resulted in a wine of wonderful balance despite the challenging conditions. Olivier Leflaive's sustainable wine-growing methods and 100% manual harvest ensure the utmost quality and respect for the land. The vinification process is meticulous, with 100% Pinot Noir grapes carefully sorted to retain only the healthiest and most optimally ripe berries. The wine is fermented as 100% whole clusters in open vats for 16 days, followed by 17 months of aging (including 3 months in stainless steel tanks) in 100% oak barrels, 40% of which are new. The wine is filtered using the Lenticulaire method, but not fined, resulting in a pure expression of the terroir. With an alcohol content of 13.80% vol., the Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2020 is a true embodiment of the elegance and finesse that define the finest Burgundian wines.
