The Picpoul de Pinet terroir, located along the Thau lagoon near the Mediterranean, is the largest white wine producing area in the Languedoc region. This sun-drenched limestone plateau, bounded by Agde, Pézenas, and Sète, is covered in fragrant garrigue, vineyards, and pine groves. With a winemaking history dating back centuries, these "Marine" vineyards near the ports of Sète and Agde are among the oldest in the Mediterranean and are known for the resilient "Piquepoul" grape variety that thrives in the area's windy, coastal conditions. The "Picpoul de Pinet" wines gained V.D.Q.S. status in 1954 and were promoted to AOC Coteaux du Languedoc in 1985, with plans for this distinct terroir to gain recognition as its own AOC within the Languedoc hierarchy.
The color is a pale yellow with bright hues. The nose is elegant, with aromas of fresh fruit. Well-balanced with focus and zesty acidity. Wonderful match with fresh shellfish and seafood. It is equally good with grilled monkfish and crayfish bisque.
