Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1994 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.

Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of our vineyard sources, the limited production of our bottlings and the varietals we use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that we believe applies to people and grapevines and surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both.

Black and blue fruits drive the aroma initially in this Sonoma Coast Syrah, with slight gamy characters, garrigue, blond tobacco and lilac aromas. Tasting the wine one finds ripe blueberry and black currant flavors, and tannins that express the wine's mountaintop sourcing. This dense and spicy Syrah was crafted in a style reminiscent of the great wines of the Northern Rhone Valley.

Wine Advocate: 92 Points

The 2016 Syrah Outer Limits comes from southwest-facing vines on the Sonoma Coast, planted in Goldridge soils at 680 feet in elevation. It was matured for 21 months in 41% new French oak and aged a further two years in bottle. Deep ruby-purple, it has pure scents of cassis, coffee beans, bitter chocolate, mint leaves and grilled meats. The full-bodied palate is plush and powerful, with a classy streak of new oak spices and a long, slightly flinty finish. Despite being the current release of Syrah from Hartford Court, it could still use plenty more time in bottle! 274 cases were made.  Erin Brooks
