This distinguished wine, composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, originates from the renowned To Kalon Vineyard. The vines, planted in 1997 and partially grafted in 2015, are rooted in deep, well-drained Coombs gravelly loam soils. Adhering to organic and sustainable farming practices, including hand-harvesting and deficit irrigation, the grapes are carefully tended to ensure optimal quality. The winemaking process involves small lot fermentations with an average of 14 days on the skins, followed by 18 months of aging in French oak barrels. The resulting wine showcases a captivating array of aromas and flavors, including graphite, mineral, plum, cassis, dark fruits, and dark chocolate. On the palate, it presents a broad and penetrating profile with an energetic core of mineral, black cherry, and savory herb notes. The wine's fantastic texture, length, and beautifully integrated tannins contribute to a long, complex finish, offering a classic character with remarkable depth and detail.
Detert Family Vineyards is owned and operated by Tom Garrett, John Garrett and Bill Cover. The foundation for our interest in wine was laid four generations ago and made possible by our great grandmother who purchased our family vineyard in 1953. Over the decades, our passion for winegrowing was cultivated under the tutelage of our grandparents and parents, who as amateurs crafted legendary Napa Valley Cabernets during their time.
Our mission is to continue the family winegrowing legacy established by our parents and grandparents, which is to craft exceptional wines from this unique location in Oakville and to share them with people who appreciate the care, and attention to quality, that go into our family crafted wines.
Gorgeous and inviting, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with inky dark fruit, leather, mocha and grilled herbs that all run through. Readers will find a super-classic, structured Cabernet with a ton of character and personality.
Rich and nicely layered, offering black currant and blackberry fruit that moves through slowly, carried by loam, singed alder and tobacco notes. A solid structure courses underneath, with an echo of warm earth lingering amid the fruit. Best from 2025 through 2037.
