Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes is a historic estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhône. Their commitment to tradition and quality shines through in their meticulous practices, from organic farming to hand-harvesting their grapes. The estate boasts four distinct soil types, each contributing to the complexity of their wines.
This captivating Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussane, Clairette, and Bourboulenc grapes. The early harvest captures the essence of the limestone terroir, resulting in a wine with an intense yellow hue and hints of green. On the nose, you'll find inviting aromas of pear, hawthorn, and white flowers, with a touch of mineral tones. The palate is fresh and lively, with a delightful saline structure and a hint of bitterness on the finish. Aged in a combination of concrete vats and oak barrels, this wine is complex and captivating.
Starting with the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, this pretty, elegant wine has lots of juicy lemon and grapefruit aromas as well as a touch of minerality, medium-bodied richness, and a light, clean, classy style that’s ideal for enjoying over the coming 2-3 years. It’s not a blockbuster, but I do like its balance.
25% Grenache Blanc, 25% Bourboulenc, 25% Roussanne, 25% Clairette. Aged for six months in concrete and new oak. Tasted blind. More citric than most Châteauneufs, and there's a good level of tang on the palate too. Pleasing refreshment, although there is still quite a bit of heat on the finish. (RH)
