Domaine de Beaurenard, a family-run estate for eight generations, crafts biodynamic wines that capture the essence of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their dedication to sustainable viticulture extends over 80 acres, producing certified biodynamic wines since 2010. This historic region, famed for its pebble-strewn vineyards, is known for complex reds.
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of all 13 permissible grapes, predominantly Grenache. Grenache's signature spice and red fruit mingle with the peppery notes of Syrah and the earthy whispers of Mourvèdre. Hand-harvested grapes and meticulous sorting ensure quality, while co-fermentation and extended vatting contribute to a supple texture. Aged in a combination of conical vats, foudres, and barrels for a year, this wine offers a complex dance of flavors with a persistent finish. Expect a hint of garrigue, the characteristic herbal fragrance of the Southern Rhône, to linger on the palate.
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape is terrific, offering classic darker berry fruits as well as peppery garrigue and sappy flower notes. As with the Boisrenard release, this has plenty of tannins and structure, but it’s beautifully balanced and has remarkable purity as well as a great finish.
The pale ruby-colored 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape opens with rose water, raspberry, strawberry, dried herbs and licorice aromas. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and built around a smooth tannic structure with absolutely no hard edges, refreshing acidity balances this savory red that ends with a long-lasting finish.
An elegant red, with nice freshness and purity to the wild cherry, plum and red licorice flavors. Shows a spine of crushed graphite that firms up the somewhat structured palate, with charred garrigue and sandalwood on the finish.
65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Cinsault, 4% Clairette Rose, Grenache Gris, Terret Noir, Picardan, Picpoul Blanc, Muscardin, Bourboulenc, Picpoul Noir, Vaccarèse, Roussanne. Aged in tank (50%), foudres (40%) and old and new barrels. Organic. Cask sample. Fruit appetising and fresh. Juicy and appealing on the palate, the tannins firm but fine and integrated. Clean, firm but fresh on the finish. Plenty of power but reined in. Nothing out of place. (JL)
